The design proposal investigated how to establish a viable, sustainable environment in which the Ga Mawela community can function, while also creating an opportunity for tourism combined with an income generating fish farm.
The project aimed at establishing a niche in the market for a low-budget floating experience, putting this location on the map as a top tourist destination.
The project aimed at establishing a niche in the market for a low-budget floating experience, putting this location on the map as a top tourist destination.
The aim of the design was to create floating units that can provide a low-budget floating experience as well as being a product that can be manufactured from the waste materials from the nearby mine, together with bamboo from the site. Manufacturing and repairing these units will provide an income to the local people.
Floating
on water is a concept many people would like to experience, but it is
not necessarily a cheap experience. This project will allow the user to
have this experience, on a site that is layered
with a cultural history of rainmaking and farming..
